Periodontology is a specialist area of dentistry that explores the supporting structures of teeth and the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases that affect them. Dr Angela Boodhooa is our specialist Periodontist here at Fulham Road Dental. She helps her patients develop their understanding of their gum health, sharing her knowledge on how they can prevent gum disease and maintain optimal gum health. Her unique expertise, tailored personable approach and caring nature have made her a well-respected figure in the periodontology community.

Education
Dr Angela Boodhooa’ s extensive education and professional qualifications are more than impressive. A research project regarding smoking and periodontal disease – that she completed during her BSc – unearthed a keen interest in periodontology and immunology. So much so – that Angela went on to attain a Master’s degree in Immunology before studying dentistry. This has provided her with an advanced knowledge of disease and inflammation.
Angela completed her dental degree at King’s College London before returning to Sussex to complete her vocational training year. During this year she was awarded 1st prize in the Kent Surrey and Sussex Deanery Vocational Training Scheme Restorative Clinical Case Presentation. Angela has been driven to empower her patients to help them understand their oral health and how this is connected to their general health.
Work
Angela honed her surgical skills by working in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. This included five years as a Specialty Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. A surgical specialty that diagnoses and treats patients with diseases affecting their face, mouth, jaws, or neck. The surgery aims to reconstruct the area of the body that has been affected. It is a complex line of surgery that is often referred to as a fusion of medicine and dentistry. While Dr Angela Boodhooa worked in this field, she earned an opportunity to present her research at the British Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons’ annual scientific meeting. During her time working as a Speciality Doctor, Angela ran her own clinics and also worked alongside consultants in clinics and on hospital wards and A&E departments, seeing a variety of patients from all aspects of the scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The specialty enabled Angela to really expand and develop her surgical skills, which she now utilises in her scope of work as a periodontist.
Dr Angela Boodhooa completed a four-year specialist training programme in Periodontology at Kings College London, Guys Hospital, which she passed with merit and is now a GDC registered specialist.
Angela is also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry – both are professional organisations of surgeons. She is also a joint member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery and the Faculty of General Dental Practice of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Angela is passionate about providing integrated treatments to patients and raising awareness of periodontal disease and optimal oral and gum health. Her exceptional communication style enables her to integrate with other clinicians and provide a multi-disciplinary team treatment. Angela builds strong relationships, which puts anxious patients at ease. Multi-disciplinary teams are the backbone of health and care services. These teams use their range of expertise from different professions to help meet the complex needs of individuals. It provides precise organisation and planning. When Angela is away from Fulham Road Dental, she enjoys family life with her young family. She has a love of art and enjoys spending time expanding her own art collection. When she isn’t busy visiting art galleries and exhibitions, she is busy cheering on her favourite football team – we will let Angela tell you whom she supports.
